Employee Commute (Scope 3)
Commute - This section will show you how to add employees' commutes to work.
Record employee commute data (regular commute to/from office)
Emissions -> Sites -> Click on a site -> Commute
Commute data:
Add new commute entry for every employee, unless multiple people have the similar mileage, means of transport, and schedule.

Click +Add to add a new commute. We will go into this card in depth below to explain the input fields:
-
Date - Add specified dates for the time frame you are reporting.
-
Number of Employees - Add how many employees have this specific route and schedule.
-
Working Schedule - The days the employee commutes to said location (do not include work from home days).
-
Emission Factor Data Set - Choose DEFRA as it is internationally recognized.
-
Mode of Transportation - Choose accordingly. If the employee takes the bus half the month and takes a motorbike half the month for example, please make another commute data card to accurately complete the data.
Select the Vehicle Type.
-
Amount of Activity Type - [Number] of miles / km / nautical miles per daily trip.
-
Unit of Measurement - Choose from miles / km / nautical miles.
-
Comments - Here is a good place to add the employees' names and anything else important to you.
Here is an example of how Net0 calculates:
A group of 12 employees is working from the office Monday to Wednesday, commuting daily on the local bus for 6km per journey on average.
For the calculations to work properly, enter the following data:
Date = Reporting period
Number of Employees = 12
Work Schedule = Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
Emission Factor = DEFRA
Mode of Transportation = Bus
Vehicle Type = Average local bus
Amount of Activity = 6 (number of km) per daily trip
Unit of Measurement = km
The system will then multiply the number of days: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the reporting period by 12 (number of employees) by 6 and by emission factor for buses.
For the month of January 2022, the calculation will look as follows:
12 x 14 x 6 x 0.095 = 96.52kg CO2e
